It's starting to pour...

Soooo, after many weeks of uneventfulness (is that a word? Don't think so...but it's perfect) I finally have some actual dating stories. Yay!

I've been talking to a guy from match for a couple of weeks. He's a 32 year old pharmaceutical sales guy, so his name will be Pharm. Last week he asked if I would like to meet up for coffee. Now, I know coffee is a great idea for a first date, because for the guy, he only has to shell out a max of about $8, and for a girl (and guy), the date can take under 30 minutes if need be. I, however, am not really into the coffee thing, not really sure why, I guess because I don't really consider it a real date. But anyway, because my well has been a little dry, I said yes. We met at a Starbucks right down the road from me (1.4 miles, to be exact) at 10:30 on Saturday. I'm not one for morning dates, since it means I have to be date-ready early, which means I have to get up even earlier. Yucky. When I got there he already had my drink in hand (I had told him that I don't like coffee but that I like a VERY specific latte, with about 7 alterations)...that gave him some bonus points. We sat and talked for a while, then walked around (slowly, since I am still recovering from craphood). After sitting/walking/talking for an hour or so, he asked if I would like to grab lunch. Sure. So we walked over to a lunch place and continued with the conversation. We finish up and say goodbye. He called me a couple of hours later, asking if I wanted to have lunch the following day (today). Sure. Today we went out to lunch, after which we walked around by the river and got Cold Stone (yay!). Afterwards we went back to his house and sat around for a while...he asked if I was available for dinner, so we are meeting up again on Tuesday. Over all, I think Pharm is a very nice guy. He definitely has his stuff together and he's fun to hang out with. He's also 6'4" which is super. The only problem is that at 32, he has gray hair. Now, I know it's not his fault, but I always feel like I am with an old guy. I find that I have to remind myself in the middle of conversation that he's not 45. Hopefully I can get over that though, because he is fun to hang out with.

Also on the agenda for this week is.....drum roll....a date with Slot. Finally! We've been talking for well over a month now, and our date got sidelined when I got sick. We originally made a date for Wednesday, but then I remembered I have a late afternoon filling replacement, and I don't know if the half-the-face-numb thing is really a good look. So we are meeting on Thursday. I'm really excited about this one, mainly because I think if it doesn't work out romantically that he could still be someone to just hang out with..and seeing how I have all of 4 friends in Reno, people to hang out with is a good thing.

Maverick Update

It's been a long time since I've update the Maverick situation, mainly since I've had no updates. Last I had heard from him he was training in Alaska, and that was a few weeks ago. I know that he has a very odd schedule and can't always make it to a computer, but I was actually getting worried that he just wasn't interested. Well, yesterday I finally got an email from him. Yay! He has returned to Japan, where he will be for a few more weeks (in true military fashion, he has no idea when he actually leaves), then he's headed for Vegas. I'm really looking forward to perhaps having a phone conversation with him, or (::GASP::) meeting in person. Out of all of the guys I've met on match/eharmony, he's the one that's the most interesting and seems like a good fit...of course I haven't met him in person, so that could be why....

Spending time with Stevo

And now, a blog that has nothing to with dating...except it explains what I'll be doing this summer when not on a date. To start, I guess Stevo the Tivo is a bit of a misnomer, since he has been in a box ever since the cable/satellite company came out with DVRs in an area where I actually live...but since I can't think of a creative name to go with DVR, I'm sticking with Stevo. Anyway, I am shocked at the amount of seemingly interesting shows this summer. Last night were the premieres of "Wipeout" and "I Survived a Japanese Gameshow." I was really looking forward to Wipeout, I mean a people running through a GIANT obstacle course, flailing around like idiots, what more could you want? Surprisingly, it was ISJG that was way more entertaining. Basically, these contestants show up in LA for a reality show, only to be flown to Japan to be contestants on an actual Japanese reality show. Not that crazy one where you have to be Greek God to compete, but one where you just do ridiculous stuff...words cant describe, so take a look at this picture of their outfits, just to give you an idea (yes, they are dresses as bugs)...The funny thing is that the entire audience is Japanese, as is the host. The host will say things to the contestants in English, then totally make fun of them in Japanese to the audience, who will start cracking up, and the contestants have no idea what's going on. It's great. Other summer shows Stevo is saving for me include: Baby Borrowers , which lets teenagers who think they are ready for parenthood borrow kids of different ages, from baby to teen; The Secret Life of an American Teenager (with Mollly Ringwald!); Army Wives (got hooked because there was a marathon of the first season while I was sick); Bridezilla (see previous post on bride who was too fat for her dress and continued to eat at China Buffet), and; Say Yes to the Dress (a reality show about an upscale wedding boutique in NY...people spend waaaay too much money on wedding dresses...I love it when they are asked their budget and say something like "No more than $8,000"...and this show isn't just for girls.)

So, those should keep me busy until my real shows (Gray's Anatomy, The Office) come on...I suggest you all check some of them out.

Date with Flight

Last night was my date with Flight. We met at PF Changs, which I love. He lives about an hour away from here, and was flying out this morning at 6am, so he wanted to meet sort of early-ish. We met at 6pm and sat in the bar for a while. He seemed sort of nervous, probably because he's new to this whole online dating thing...I, of course, am an old pro, so I don't really get nervous anymore. After a few minutes we moved to the dining area and proceeded with dinner. Conversation was pretty good and not awkward or anything. We shared two dishes, although of course I had him order his choice, the Moo Shu chicken, without mushrooms. A few glasses of wine later we were finally leaving the restaurant at 8:30pm. Unlike my previous 2.5 hour date with Frat, however, I was actually enjoying myself and bummed that it had to end...darn early morning flights. Unfortunately I won't see him for a while because he is going out of town for a week for work, and then is on vacation for two weeks.

On a completely unrelated note, I am watching Bridezillas as I'm typing. A large, black bride, who ordered her dress three months ago, can no longer fit in it...as in it doesn't zip at all. What does she do? Heads to the all you can eat chinese buffet. Nice.

Tempting, but no

I am receiving a lot of random myspace messages since switching my status to single...here is one gem I got from someone names "Stevo." Oh, and his profile says he's 17:

"we should have sex"

Yep, that's it.

And finally, a date!

After much too long of a hiatus, I'm back in the game! That's right, this dating blog is actually returning to its intended purpose...not that the chronicle of idiots wasn't entertaining. I have a date this Saturday with Flight, the Navy officer I mentioned in a previous post. We've chatted online a bit and he seems like a very nice guy, not too mention he is pretty darn cute as well. He lives about an hour away but is making the trek. We are going to PF Changs (which I love), so at the very least I'll have a yummy dinner :)

Doomed to Singlehood

I fully expected to be all better and back to going on actual dates by now, but my lungs had other plans. As it turns out, I am actually getting worse rather than better, so it will be another couple weeks before I have blogs that are interesting. Sorry!

Just to update you on a few things:
I am still emailing back and forth with Slot on a daily basis, he seems like a pretty cool guy who would be fun to hang out with.

I have started "talking" to a new guy from match. He is a Navy officer at a base about an hour from here (yes, I apparently attract the military guys, which is okay with me). I'll call him Flight, because he's a flight instructor. We have only emailed back and forth a few times, but it seems like it could be promising. As always, I'll keep you posted.

Well, it's about time for me to take some drugs and go to sleep...ahhh, my new routine...

And again...

First of all, let me start by apologizing for turning this blog into more of a chronicle of idiots than an actual dating journal, but until I'm better, this will have to do. I would also like to say that pneumonia is an excellent diet, I've lost about 6 lbs in a week, enough so someone at work actually noticed. I'm sure it's not the healthiest looking weight loss (not that dark circles around the eyes aren't attractive, I mean look at Kate Moss), but seeing how my 10 year high school reunion is on Saturday, I'll take what I can get.

And now, for the suitor of the day...this guy sent me one email. One. And this is an excerpt from it:

"I also enjoy running 2 miles M-F before work and then doing some pushups and situps. Love the getting the blood pumping in the morning. I am easy going, love to socialize and have fun. I love sex and am a very sexual person."

Um, excuse me? I mean, at least buy me dinner before telling me that you are an a-hole!

Is this guy for real?

I woke up to this email from match:

"Subject: You have a very beautiful picture.

i am a 46 year old guy i have a nice house and truck i am support manager for a retail store. looking for a good girl that will work and help pay bill and that likes to have fun."

Please tell me this guy is joking! Please?

Oh so hot...

So all of the winners are email me from match. I just got an email from a guy whose screen name is RenoMiniCooper. He mentions in his profile how much he loves his Mini and that its name is Rico. I'm sorry, but unless you're a 16 year old girl, naming your car is sort of gay. Not to mention that the car in question is a Mini. So no, I don't think I will be emailing him back.

Taking a break

In my previous post, I mentioned I was having some medical problems and parts might have to be taken out. Come to find out I have pneumonia...so it looks like I won't be dating any time soon. I am still emailing Slot on a regular basis, and we will probably go out once I'm better. I did get another wink from the 61 year old who describes himself as a "great lover," so that's encouraging.

And I'm back in the game...

Yesterday, I received and email from Slot, asking how my weekend went. I waited until today to reply. He wrote back and, in a way that is oh-so-him, asked me out...it went something like this:

"I don't know what you have in the pipeline over the next couple weeks, but maybe we can meet up? I have no expectations, but sometimes it's nice to just meet a new face."

Does this guy think he's the coolest person ever? According to a coworker, he'll probably show up with flowers and insist they mean nothing...haha...

Unfortunately, I am having a bid of a medical problem and may be getting parts of me removed over the next few days, so I might have to wait to schedule something.

Aww, you sexy cougar...

I got the best compliment yesterday...at my friend's engagement party, I was told that I was "very sexy." Yep, that's me. Unfortunately, the person who told me this was my friend's 80-something year old grandma. Oh, and she has a heavy German accent (even though she's lived here for like 50 years...I swear it keeps getting stronger though...), so you have to imagine her saying it with a thick accent. It almost ranked up there when her husband was talking to me and said I was a cougar. I was fairly shocked that he knew what the term "cougar" meant, plus sort of confused, since I thought you had to be over 40 to be eligible for cougar status. After spinning my brain for a few seconds, I realized he was referring to our high school mascot, ie. the E-town Cougars. Ahhh, it's suddenly so clear...
